YouTube Summary Privacy Policy
Overview
YouTube Summary is a Chrome extension that displays transcripts on YouTube video pages and, when the user requests it, generates summaries and translations using an AI service configured by the user. The developer operates no servers and does not collect, receive, or store any user data.
Data stored locally
- Settings such as the selected model, prompt template, output language, and save folder.
- The Anthropic, OpenAI, and DeepSeek API keys entered by the user.
- Cached summaries and translations.
This data is stored only in the extension's local storage (chrome.storage.local) in the user's browser. It is never synced or uploaded, and it is removed when the extension is uninstalled.
Data sent to third parties
- Only when the user clicks "Generate summary" or "AI translate", the extension sends the current video's title, channel name, URL, and transcript text, together with the user's own API key, directly to the AI service selected by the user (Anthropic, OpenAI, or DeepSeek). That service processes the data under its own privacy policy.
- When the user chooses "Summarize in ChatGPT / Claude / Gemini", the extension opens that website and fills the same content into its input box.
- The extension reads transcript data on YouTube pages only to display it in the panel.
Saving files
When the user clicks "Save as Markdown", the file is saved to the user's computer through Chrome downloads and never passes through any server.
Commitments
- User data is not sold or transferred.
- User data is not used for purposes unrelated to the extension's functionality or for advertising.
- User data is not used to determine creditworthiness or for lending purposes.
